Re: Thoughts on Bela?

I...cordially hate her? She's clever and witty and strong, all of which are admirable enough qualities by themselves, and she did make me laugh. Even her extreme self-centeredness isn't a deal-breaker for me; I like Crowley, for example, and there's no denying he's a selfish bastard.

But Bela took it to an extreme that would have suited a demon very well, but IMO was downright off-putting in a human being. Absolutely everything she did seemed to have an ulterior motive, and despite what Lauren Cohan said to the contrary, I just never got the sense even for a moment that she had any genuine desire to connect with anyone or have a real friend or care for anybody but herself. Ever. The last-minute tragic backstory just wasn't enough to overcome that negative impression.

That said, the season got cut short by the writer's strike, and we might well have seen more depth to the character if she'd had a proper full season to develop. I can only go by what we actually got to see, though.

And honestly? Part of my dislike for the character, at this point, is probably due to the shrieks of "Misogyny!" I get whenever I mention it.

These thoughts...are pretty much mine, exactly, but much better stated.
