You can see some of it in the horrible pilot that was never aired (you can find it in YouTube) and the artbook (Toph was a boy at first, and part of a love triangle with Katara and Aang)

A while ago there's was an anon (link here) that claimed they had access to the character bible and posted summaries of how the seasons were going to be like. At first I was suspicious because hey it's anon in 4chan... but then came Korra and the amazing writers they had before weren't there anymore and Bryke were the main writers... and it had all the problems of both the pilot and the "leaked" summaries (poor characterization, love triangles, messy plot, etc). So now it's easier to believe that anon may not have been lying and we dodged a bullet.

Those goddamn fucking love triangles and messy plots >_< I really wish LoK got the writer team AtLA had, it'd probably be so awesome if it had instead of this disappointing...wreck.
