I think it's interesting that some are willing to make shippers the scapegoats of poor writing decisions instead of holding the showrunners accountable. At the end of the day it's their show, and if their pandering to a certain faction of fans backfires, that's on them.

My feeling is that they bit off much more than they could chew deciding to write all the episodes themselves. They've already spoken about how they can't please everyone when Mako and Korra's relationship was criticized in S1. That they weren't able to course correct a season later is on them.
