In case anyone else was as mystified as I was, OP is talking about this person:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilles_de_Rais

Thank you so much. I had absolutely no idea who that was supposed to be.

No problem! Reverse image search is a wonderful thing.

Also, from the Wikipedia it sounds like OP is (at the very least) disagreeing with a lot of historians and scholars. It's definitely not cut and dry, and in a way it almost reminds me of that St Patrick's Day post from a couple days ago.

Yeah, that's what I was just thinking, after reading the Wikipedia article. While I'm NEVER hesitant to believe that a church could be corrupt and falsely condemn an innocent man, it doesn't really look like there's a lot of evidence to suggest that happened here.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-20 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
What post was that?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-20 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Link: http://fandomsecrets.dreamwidth.org/978165.html?thread=730165493#cmt730165493

The main thing that makes me think of it is the "pagan religion persecuted by Christianity" thing.

So sad I missed that post when it first came about. The cultural appropriation part made my day.

No problem! Reverse image search is a wonderful thing.

How can you do that??

(Anonymous) 2014-03-20 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
1) Click image
2) Open GIS in another tab
3) Drag image into the GIS tab and into the image search bar

That should do it!

And agreeing with Witch-Cult in Western Europe which is pretty much proven to be complete bullshit.

Way late but basically, in France, de Rais is still depicted as a national hero since he did some good shit during the 100 years war.

Thank you, anon, this was very helpful.

I still haven't heard of the guy, but at least I know who I haven't heard of.

Yes, thank you. My best guess was Vlad, but I knew it was the wrong hat.

His moustache isn't nearly fabulous enough, either.

oh, very very true. XD

I'm not sure how this is fandom, but here's what I think about it anyways.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-20 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
You're wrong, OP. Yes, people often gave false confessions after being tortured by the Church, but you're overlooking the existence of accomplices and eye-witnesses.

Thanks! I'm still baffled by the secret but that was helpful.

I totally thought OP was talking about Richard III, so thank you for this.
