I think it's a fairly common thing that some pet owners do.

And, you really can learn to interpret a pet's body lnguage well enough to be pretty spot on abpout what they're trying to convey.

I like to play dumb though.
"MEW!"
"What's that?"
"MEW!" *runs to food dish*
"Aww, you want to be picked up and LOVED!"

And then the cat stares at me like I'm a moron and makes "Nooooo" faces while they get cuddled and kissed and petted, until I release them to run back to the food bowl to beg some more.

I just laughed out loud at that. I do that to my cats, too. We also do 'punishment with forced cuddles' when they're being obnoxious.
