Re: Really popular non-canon ships who you see as just really good friends

Harry Potter - James/Sirius. (Well, Remus/Sirius is more popular, but that one I can kind of wrap my head around.) I do think they had something beyond a normal friendship - James was, for all intents and purposes, Sirius's "significant other" to the point where Sirius kind of wants Harry to be James 2.0. I love how strong their bond was even though it wasn't romantic.

I think I will say Lupin/Sirius. I don't support any ship involving either, but I've NEVER understood where this idea that they really love each other and that JKR was stomping all over gay rights by having Tonks or Sirius having girly posters. They really barely interact, and it's rarely in a very loving way. They were good friends, but it's much more clear that Sirius cared about James more than anyone, and Lupin seems to care more about Harry than he does Sirius.

+1 I feel exactly the same.

I agree. I never got the pairing at all except as a massive, perhaps almost unhealthy friendship.

I don't think it was unhealthy, really. I think it became unhealthy post-mortem because getting revenge on Peter for James's death consumed Sirius's life for the next thirteen years because that's literally all he had left in life, but I don't see what's unhealthy about having a friend that close.

It was after, when Sirius saw Harry like he was James no. 2, that's what I was thinking of. But Sirius was damaged by then anyway by his time in Azkabhan.
