shows & movies: animation or live-action?

inspired by secret #1 from two days ago

which one do you prefer? why?

I don't have a preference. I like animated movies and also live-action movies. I dunno. Sorry if that's a bit lame, but no real opinion to share.

If I only had to watch one for the rest of my life? Live action for purely shallow reasons. I like hot guys and I like seeing them in movies/tv.

And at this point CGI is so advanced, I don't have to worry about missing out on "amazing worlds" or things that were only possible in animation.

I usually go with anime stuff because they're usually pretty short (unlike a lot of live action series), I know where to find the stuff I want, and I enjoy the over-the-top and fantasy aspects.

I also can't deal with laugh tracks or live audiences laughing, so that excludes a lot of sitcoms that I'd other be interested in.

I like both but watch a lot more live action. I like seeing people more than just hearing their voices. If that makes sense.

Animation, definitely.

A.) An Animated character is not going to do something stupid on social media and make me dislike them.
B.) If I wanted to see live action, I'd leave my home. I might not see someone jump out of a plane, but that doesn't really interest me. There are diffrent animation styles, and LA is just the same!
C.) Animation is just as good a way of telling a story.
D.) Includes stopmotion, which is semi-real :P

I love both. It really mostly depends on the movie or show. If its really good it doesn't matter. I probably have more things I like that are live action, but there are some amazing animations out there.

Live action. I own a lot of movies just for the awesome costume designs, and fabric rendering really isn't up to the point where animated costumes do anything for the wannabe costume designer in me. Also I like watching people act.

Animation. I can never separate character from actors like, seeing them outside the show kinda spoils the fun for me. Besides, if actors fuck up in some way they may be fired. With animation I have an easier time suspending my disbelief... and the special effects will probably be better.

Live action, because -- ESPECIALLY with anime -- I have a harder time liking the voice acting in non-live-action stuff or I dont like the art style. Many times its both on the same show.

Isn't stop motion animation technically both? It's objects that really exist, after all, and some stop motion videos use real people as props.

It's the stylization of animation that gets me.

I love both. Lately I've been watching a lot more live action but I am always craving something with amazing animation (uuuugh why isn't that Siegfried movie ever gonna be made).

For shows, animation usually.

For movies, either.

Depends a lot on the genre and characters. If it's a movie with a lot of kids, then I generally prefer animation because I am big on characterization which young actors aren't always good at. With older characters, I tend to prefer live-action.

By the same token, I also prefer more 'dramatic' movies animated, because they allowed for an emphasis on character interactions more without taking away as much from surrounding stories and contexts (i.e. Spirited Away managed to focus very well on Chihiro's introspection even as they gave great body to the spirit world she was in - if this we live-action, either it would be highly introspective without the well-bodied spirit world, or it would be a strong fantasy but without that great character-centric element driven by her personal struggle).

Action movies, though, I want live-action - it's just more fun seeing all that detail, which is kind of what I'm there for, anyway. Genre-centered movies (i.e. movies where the setting and story are more important than the characters) I also tend to prefer in live-action.

None of this is absolute by any means - i.e. I love the early Harry Potter movies despite every reason for them to seem like they would have been better animated, and I can't imagine them any other way.

I think it's a very even split for me, as a kid I know I preferred animation over live-action but overs the years I must have equalled the tables.

I like both but I prefer animation. I like how animation can have varying types of styles and fluidity, and how it can often do things that live action can't (at least without a massive budget that TV shows, at least, rarely have).

Adding to that, I love the variety in camera angles that animation tends to use. It makes me sad that US cartoons have been shifting towards a constant 3/4ths angle, though.

Live action? I guess? But that may just be sheer quantity speaking.

IDK I don't really have a huge preference I think, just that what I do like tends to be found in live action more than animated movies. Possibly 'cause I'm a bit picky about art.

Nonsense question is nonsense. I see the movies that interest me, in the medium they're created in.

Animation, because live-action shows have a terrible problem of not knowing when to end. I can't even count how many live-action shows I've stopped watching because the writers kept dragging them on and on and on until they just got stupid.
