No, it means exactly what it says: the ideas were good, and therefore if you did a lot of rewriting, the thing itself would be good because the foundational content is good even if it isn't expressed well or is all muddled up. Hard work on its own without any good ideas produces easy-to-consume mediocrity. Hard work combined with good ideas produces greatness.

Eh, I guess it was mostly a misconception on my side. People told me they loved the ideas about my texts, I got praised randomly for my "innovation". They didn't give me much criticism at all though (maybe due to group dynamics) so I thought everything was mostly fine with my stories.
If people are honest, then it means exactly what it says.

Most of the time, just talking about the idea/concept outside of the experience probably tells you something about their immersion if they're not professional critics.
