I went on a rant on this a while back, though your not using it in the way that actually makes me rage.
But death of the author is about review, critique, and interpretation. To re-use the example I gave before...
Person A: "You know, this work really speaks to me as a metaphor for the trans-communities struggles *gives citations*"
Person B: "I really don't think the author intended it that way at all."
Person A: *Shrug* "That really doesn't matter. You can still find this in the work"
Now to answer your actual question this is something entirely different. It's fanart. On a much smaller level then the big fandoms we normally associate with that, but it's fanart. Fan art twists the original canon all the goddamn time!

That shit's flattery in my view. But even if the author doesn't like it, as long as there's not money or shit being made off it, it's just one of the hazards of the business of creating something for public consumption.

Artist is yuni on deviantart bust most of their stuff is contortionist fetishism.
