Not at all. If you disliked a book/movie, it's pretty easy to tell why--there are good ideas that are poorly executed, and dumb ideas that are done incredibly well. If you have good ideas, then you're halfway there, in my opinion. Your writing will get better as you practice, learn more techniques, address your strengths and weaknesses, and grow. Don't give up!
