...not necessarily. In my fandom there's this one story that's well loved but rarely updated*, but this one BNF asshole made a point of taking every new update and saying how terrible it was and not worth the wait, and how said author was writing it wrong because only said BNFs ideas were right. And then Asshole BNF had the inevitable posse that echoed everything they said. They drove the author away from message boards where the author used to have a friendly welcome and nice conversation, and then eventually seemed to disappear. I still blame Asshole BNF because I'm almost positive they caused enough damage to stop the story's updating completely.

I got some personal justice/vengeance against that BNF though, that's my one happy thought about the whole situation.

*Said author happened to be a working mother with a small child, and I wouldn't be shocked if she's had another one since the last update. The worst part? Asshole BNF was also a Mom. And would go on threads and bitch all the time about not getting updates and criticizing the author for using twitter instead of writing the new chapter.

Yeah, okay, that's just out of line. How people conduct their lives are their own business, and that includes when and how they choose to write their damn fanfiction. I'm sad that people allowed that dickbag to get away with that shit.
