To be fair, there is a large disconnect between the way he's written in fic and the way he's written in comics. He's far more violent in the comics than in fandom, for example.

IDK, there are plenty of people in my fandoms who do that sort of thing even when they're definitely following along with the canon. People write characters OOC for the sake of id candy all the time.
