Characters you emulated when you were a kid

Lets hear your stories! What characters? How old were you? What decade did this happen?

(if there's any characters you still emulate, let us know about that too!)

When I was little, my mom and dad could get me to stop doing ANYTHING by claiming that the crew of Star Trek TNG would never act that way, being from the enlightened 24th century and all. It worked very well.

When I was around 8, Raven from Teen Titans was my idol and I occassionally wandered around the house with a blanket on my head as a hood/cloak and took up meditation.

Xena. I was actually her for Halloween.

My siblings and I used to pretend to be Mortal Kombat characters while on the trampoline. My brother lost two teeth that way.

I got through most of high school pretending to be Spock. Too bad I've never been able to reconstruct that level of emotional control again.

When I was 4, I would copy Jerry's movements on screen whenever I was watching Tom & Jerry. And then I'd run around the house pretending to be chased by a giant cat and winning.

Dana Scully. I wanted to be as righteous and awesome as she was. I also dreamed of becoming an FBI agent when I was all grown. Didn't happen but still... Scully. She's a boss.

Uh... I used to play Scooby Doo and Rainbow Brite and GIJoe and He-Man/She-ra with friends when I was a kid. I dunno if that counts?

I have two older sisters, and we played an ongoing game with our Star Wars Micro Machines for almost 10 years (c. 1995-2004). It was epic, and borrowed elements from many many other sources other than Star Wars (Star Trek, Diana Wynne Jones's stuff, Dinotopia, and Cowboy Bebop were big influences). There's a cast of over 125 named characters, and plotlines that grew increasingly dark and complex as we went from childhood into our teens. It's ridiculously complex (we have a private wiki where we've compiled information about it), and I still sort of count it as one of my primary fandoms. :D

With regards to games where we played characters ourselves (not with toys), "Starfleet Academy" was popular. Middle sister was always a Vulcan, Eldest sister a human cadet, and I was a "Q-let" because I was the youngest and I liked to troll their games. I would make objects disappear or teleport people randomly just for shits and giggles. I did this most probably ages 6-8.

My sisters and I mostly pretended to be original characters, because we had some rather vivid shared worlds when we were growing up, but we also did have a lot of fun pretending to be Charlie's Angels and/or mercenaries like the A-Team.

We also used to pretend to be water pokemon when we were swimming. Not pokemon trainers, but the actual pokemon themselves. Vaporeon, Gyarados, and whatever that dinosaur-looking one that Ash & co. rode around on during Orange Islands was.

To be fair, sometimes we still do that. If you're in the water, why bother pretending to be fragile air-breathing humans? It's merpeople, Ocean Girl, pokemon, or bust :)

Mostly Xena and the Saddle Club trio. I still like to eat weird ice cream combinations because of the latter.

When I was younger, I tried to read as much as Matilda did. To be perfectly honest, a lot of was because I was trying compete with her reading ability.

I always adored Xena as a kid (watching it since I was 4), and emulated her a lot in many ways. Mostly in the badass violent ways (learning martial arts for much of my life), though a lot of my tendency to try and jump in and help everyone with whatever problems they face comes from growing up watching a show about this badass woman and her friend wandering around just to help people in need.

I still do this, honestly - I just tend to be a little more subtle about it, now. :)
