I need to channel my anger into something

(Anonymous) 2014-03-22 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm angry about something very silly and shallow, that should have no impact in my life at all, and could probably be qualified as "first world problem". Yet it's making me very angry and I can't do anything to stop it from happening. So I want to soothe myself by putting my anger and frustration into something but I have no idea what to do. Videogames don't do it for me (if anything they make me more angry). Tips, please?

I use music, jigsaw puzzles, housework, small crafts, or a combination of them to pull me out of my head. Yesterday I listened to my fave playlist while I decorated a little wood box that I got from a craft store and it turned my whole day around. It also got me to dust an area that I don't dust often enough because I noticed it looked bad when I was looking for a place to display the finished box.

I read random wikipedia articles or find OTT stuff I can never buy on amazon.

Does it have to do with fandom or fanfic? When something in my fandom pisses me off (like a character I love getting bashed), I write fic for my favorite character/s and then post them.

Don't channel your anger. Recent studies have shown that all "channelling your anger" does is teach you to be angry again and more frequently when you encounter similar stimuli. Learn instead how not to be angry.

Tell yourself that there are better things to get angry about, ask yourself if you're feeling frustrated because you have a legitimate reason to be angry or you're just annoyed at life in general. And then watch a soothing video, read a book or watch something funny.

Also, be grateful: literally tell yourself, "I'm grateful for X," even if it's just, like, being able to go onto FS every day or something.
