Personally, it's less about the hard facts and more about the voice of the character. Yes, there are many different writers/backstories/etc for any comics character but when they come out sounding nothing like ANY of those versions (or even the movie version for that matter), clearly someone just plugged them into the story in whatever form the story called for and didn't bother checking the character out ahead of time.
