I think that they should tag the pairing, if it's included in the fic. Not everyone likes to be surprised by pairings they hate, even if it's only for one chapter. Just tag it as endgame or break-up fic.

If only they tagged it with endgame or breakup fic because I definitely not like being surprised by clicking a link and realizing a fic tagged with my ship is actually shitting all over said ship. It sucks. But yeah, if they tagged for it, that would be pretty great.

When this has happened to me, the writer has sometimes got annoyed with comments about how disappointed the readers are that their OTP has been broken up for good in the story. I think they feel that as readers we aren't entitled to anything and as long as they tag if there's another partner, then that's OK.

My problem with this is that I don't have time. I'm just not interested in working through a fic, especially a long one, or WIP that I stick with, just for it to end with my OTP split up. I can be getting on with other fics, or even reading one of the many real life books on my list. Fanfic serves a comfort read purpose, I have no interest in reading it for literary merit.

I'd rather something like that be included in the "additional tags" section or the notes rather than in the actual relationship tag section
