Fandom requires a thicker skin

[personal profile] elephantinegrace 2014-03-23 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
You've got the people who think that fandom is just a hobby, and you've got the people who see fandom as a way of life. The former think that the latter are crazy and childish for sinking so much time into fannish stuff, and the latter think the former aren't real fans and should stop trying to shut them up. The former are likely to think that there is no deeper meaning to the media they consume, and even if there are, they don't care about it because thinking about it requires too much time. The latter are likely to see deeper meanings where there weren't intentionally any (not that they're necessarily wrong) and think watching something just for fun means the watcher is too dumb to see deep meanings. And remember that people are more extreme in their views on the internet because it's easier to tailor the things they see to match and reinforce their own views.

So basically, what I'm saying is, tailor your dashboard and friend list until you only see people who also like meta, even when it's not positive about something.

But You Didn't use the Acronyms so You Are Not a Trufan

And so it goes.
