I totally feel you on this, 'cause it's one of my pet peeves as well. The worst example I've come across is this one that starts out as a pretty normal fic involving my OTP...and then suddenly one of them goes homicidally insane for a stupid, barely-explained reason and the other one teams up with the character the author actually ships her with and they realize that they've been in love all along when they kill the first character, and as soon as she's dead they walk off smiling, hand in hand. The summary did not even hint at this outcome.

Wow, oh my god. I'm going to need a link.

I wish I could help you there, but I read it about nine years ago and I don't even remember the author's username, much less the url of her site, assuming it's still around. Sorry. If it helps, basically it was a J/7 fic that ended up being J/B, 'cause apparently before they were all assimilated Seven's parents did experiments on her as a child that made her evil and crazy and having her borg emotional inhibitor removed caused her to go on a multi-chapter murder/assimilation spree on the ship, which led to Janeway realizing that she really loved B'Ellana all along and then they kill Seven together and start holding hands and giggly-flirting over her corpse. The end. To be fair, canon!B'Ellana probably would be pretty stoked over being allowed to kill Seven horribly, so I guess that part was in-character.

I was given a BIRTHDAY PRESENT years ago (at a time when ALL I wrote was X/Y, and I'd written a lot of it) in which Y and X flirt for a bit, and then A shows up and kills X, and Y realizes that he was bewitched by the evil X and steps over X's dead body to run off happily with A. :P

Happy birthday to meeeeee...

Wow. That's nasty. Where they trying to be an asshole or was that supposed to be a nice gift?

I don't actually know! They showed up and posted a handful of X/Y stories (with a lot of "Y deserves better" overtones) before hand, but never responded to any feedback, so I kind of wondered if they were a sockpuppet or just honestly didn't realize it was rude. I left a pretty neutral thank-you just in case they were bizarrely well-meaning. :)

D: that sounds TERRIBLE
