I usually feel connected to the character, but it doesn't matter if it's a completely customizable character or just... Mario. They all become "me" in a sense until I finish the game.

And when I can choose it's usually random who I do choose. Sometimes it shallow and I choose the cute one (in pokemon that means the girl) and sometimes it's based off of who I feel like flirting with, like in the Harvest Moon games.

I do want more female representation in games, and there are certain franchises where I really want them to let me play certain characters (like a game in the main Zelda franchise following Zelda, or when do I get to play as Kairi in Kingdom Hearts?) But I don't need a character to be "me" exactly, I just need to ability to play more kickass women.
