Uh sorry. My bullshit meter's going off at 100% certainty. This is not your real opinion. Not that it's impossible for someone to hate Sherlock Holmes, but this particular secret definitely isn't genuine. Sorry man. Better luck next time?

/also HDU only Sherlock Holmes fans are allowed to mock the milk drinking snake. It's not funny without affection!

This is so interesting to me. I am unable to say, but you and others seem so sure. I guess I'm not so good with the tone in some respects.

If it helps, I'm with you. I don't think it is a troll secret either. Just seems like the secretmaker is frustrated to me.

It's a vibe, hard to explain. Are you very familiar with Sherlock Holmes? Because if you're not, well -- the story reference they make here, the comparison to the adaptations (which are all far more ridiculous than the stories), and the tone of their complaint are all absolutely trolly and make no sense for someone to have. If someone read the stories and genuinely hated the stories, they just wouldn't phrase a secret this way. If it's not an out-and-out troll secret, it's definitely faked in some way to be more sensational.

I'm familiar with Sherlock Holmes through pop culture osmosis. It's been years since I read any of the stories and I've forgotten them, so I'm not familiar with that story.

Thanks for the explanation. A part of me still thinks it's not totally a troll secret. Maybe a bit sensationalized like you said though.

+1

My first thought was literally, "Of all the things you could pick on, you settled on The Adventure of the Speckled Band? Really?"

Sounds like they are a bit thick to me.

I dunno. It just feels highly trolly to me. It pings my troll-dar or something. It just doesn't make sense for it not to be a troll. Something about the way they worded it, I guess, it just seems thoroughly fake.

Of course this is a moot discussion since I doubt the OP is going to butt in and confess. ;D

It didn't necessarily strike me as troll-y, so I was a bit surprised to scroll down and see so many people crying troll. Not sure how much I trust anyone's troll-spotting though. Every serious secret I've ever made has had at least one person thinking me a troll while the one time I made a trolltastic secret everyone took it super seriously. Or maybe I don't know how to judge my own tone?

My mockery of the jellyfish comes from a place of love.

You forgot the gorilla man. Also the pseudo-leprosy. Although that was somewhat mitigated by the sheer perfect of Holmes writing a story that ends with a lady dramatically fainting in the middle of Holmes's speech, after he spent the first four paragraphs of said story making backhanded comments about how overly colorful Watson's stories were.
