i think you've got it backwards

how is the fact that male characters are deemed fine even when their attractiveness is the only thing they have going for them while female characters have to be interesting and strong and whatever for fans to acknowledge their existence sexism against men?

not when combined with the rest of the secret. they said 'but not the other way around', so they're talking about a double standard, a double standard that's unfair to men. and then they say sexism go both ways. so to them this double standard is sexist; which it is. but not against men.

If somebody like a female character strictly because of look (and that person is male) they're objectifying. But if a woman likes a male character just because he's hot, nobody blinks an eye.

That's the double standard the OP is referring to.
