Aw, this makes me kinda sad, since I also have a lot in common with Karkat, and I adore him. (He's also my patron! :P)

I think part of it is that seeing an amazing person like Karkat embody some of my flaws reminds me that everyone is flawed and even people who have particularly...overt flaws like mine (being prickly, easily angered, stuff like that) can still be great people who are loved.

ETA: not saying I only like characters I ID with. I love way too many characters for that to be the case, lol.

I totally agree! I love Karkat and find myself relating to him as well (plus he's also my patron), but I definitely love a lot of other characters who I can't identify whatsoever with.
