Re: How rich are you, FS?

For a student, I would say that I live fairly comfortably and if I had lived with a roommate or somewhere with lower rent (I currently pay around 1300 USD a month where I live according to a currency calculator) I would live very comfortably. As it is now, I can spoil myself a bit and still have some left by the end of the month after all bills are paid.

I'm lucky though as my education is funded by the state and I also get student loans where a large part of it will be converted to scholarships as long as I pass all exams. I also have work 2-3 nights a week at a job where I'm able to study while working, so I'm lucky in that regard as well.

Hi Norwegian Anon?

I pay 770ish USDollars in rent and power* and live on my own, but that is pretty much in the middle of no-fucking-where, tho I live only on student loans + the "can't work because I am sick scholarship" which I got approved for today.

*And I am hated by the student housing people because they pay like 600USdollars a month and share a kitchen with 6-8 others...

Norwegian anon, yes! Oslo anon to be more precise, which explains the rent as I live within walking distance of downtown Oslo and well, rent in Oslo is expensive as fuck in general.

I haven't even bothered to apply for student housing as there are so many people on the waiting list and if I'd gotten a room I would have to, like you said, share kitchen with a fuckton of people and maybe bathroom as well. And it would have cost me from 700-1000+ USD for just a room and maaaaybe my own bathroom. So I'd rather pay a bit extra for the comfort of having my own apartment and privacy. Though I must say I envy you a bit for your rent! (though I don't think I would have managed very well in the middle of nowhere as I am very much a city mouse.)

wow, rent rant!

tl;dr rent is fucking expensive in Oslo

Oh I wanted to guess Oslo, based on the insanely high rent, but I wasn't sure... I live in a much, much smaller city, but not far from you...

That was the same for me in Trondheim, the one time I did, I was number 500something on the waiting list and that was the room with the shortest list....

I am the same, I get to live on my own, my landlord don't care about my cat and it isn't that far from my Uni so I can easily walk to it if I want to, and the bus goes quite often, i'd pretty much pay more for that luxury, heck I would even settle for a smaller flat, as the one I have now is more than big enough. I am a city person, but I don't mind living outside of the city as long as I can easily get to people.
