How rich are you, FS?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-24 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
There was a secret about it, and now I'm curious.

If you're on good terms with your family who are rich even if you're under 18 or not personally wealthy and that influences your lifestyle, I would say that counts too.

In typical terms, I'm middle class. I live within my means and save like crazy, so I'm able to splurge on things like vacations.

I grew up poor and am by my country's standards poor, but it is the standard "living on student loans poor" so except for the fact that I don't work besides my studies I are not that much worse of than my peers, except the fact that I can't call home to ask for money.

Upper middle class I guess

My parents are extremely well-off, and by proxy I sort of am too, though now that I'm living on my own I don't get as much financial support from them. With my job and the sporadic amounts I get from them, I suppose you could put me at comfortable middle class? I rarely have to worry about bills, but I don't have the excess cash to blow on things I don't really need.

middle class ubpbringing and saving in the background, so that when I really need the money I don't have to take out a loan for things like a new laptop or a drivers license. Thankfully the housing costs in my area are cheap enough to almost always regularly save enough to go on vacation somewhere else.

Middle-class I guess? I've always been able to afford the essentials like car and computer, it's just that my car is older than me and the laptop's used...I don't have any big splurges. I've been living with my family all through college, and my job right now pays the rent, otherwise I'd be in much worse shape lol.

Re: How rich are you, FS?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-24 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
For a student, I would say that I live fairly comfortably and if I had lived with a roommate or somewhere with lower rent (I currently pay around 1300 USD a month where I live according to a currency calculator) I would live very comfortably. As it is now, I can spoil myself a bit and still have some left by the end of the month after all bills are paid.

I'm lucky though as my education is funded by the state and I also get student loans where a large part of it will be converted to scholarships as long as I pass all exams. I also have work 2-3 nights a week at a job where I'm able to study while working, so I'm lucky in that regard as well.

My family is very, very comfortably middle-class, mostly due to a lot of good fortune and right place right time stuff. Financially speaking we're actually probably upper middle class at this point, but we don't really live like it, and I grew up in mostly lower-middle-class surroundings.

Dirt poor and with rapidly increasing student debt (the best kind, apparently). It turns out I eat so much healthier when I have barely any money to spend on food than I do when I have disposable income, which is the one and only positive aspect of it.

Middle I guess.

Re: How rich are you, FS?

Upper middle class. I come from a pretty wealthy family who helped me out a lot when I left home (car, school, etc) and it meant not having any debt when I started my career.

I'm on jobseeker's allowance, at the rate for a single 25 year old with no children.

My parents struggle to pay the bills, rent, council tax and mortgage. I help out where I can, usually by putting money on the electricity meter or doing the shopping (supervised because a) I'm legally barred from driving and b) for some reason my mum has this idea that I'd buy nothing but junk and forget things like frozen veg, roast taters, and meat that isn't already in a ready meal).

On this basis, I'd pretty much say "not rich at all".

Middle class, I suppose. I own my apartment and a car, and I've got some savings, but I wouldn't call myself rich. My parents are well-off, so I've never been poor even when growing up.

Not-quite-broke college student.

Hopefully going to get a bit better this summer but I'm pretty much just aiming for 'comfortable.'

Middle class, with enough money to spare on hobbies but not enough on holidays. We only take holidays when my dad is being sponsored to present research, so my parents don't have to foot the bill. I save a lot of money though, I guess I'm kind of rich compared to my classmates, but only because I rarely want things

Haaa, well I'm getting financial help from my dad now because my current program highly discourages getting a job because of the workload. And my dad is willing to help me out because he's the one who suggested this program to me in the first place. So I have enough to get by for rent and groceries and whatnot and have savings and some investments as well. Can't complain.

I'd say my parents are upper-middle class. My mom is remarried now and my stepdad comes from a pretty well-off family though he himself is more middle class, I think. I'm pretty sure my dad makes more money than he lets on.

Deeply in debt with student loans. I owe enough to buy somebody a house.

My short-term finances are reasonably OK, but would be better if I didn't live in one of the worst housing markets in my country, where rent is inflated to an insane degree and cars are practically a requirement for everything. When I finish my commitments here I'm moving back to my home city where I can live more sustainably.

Broke as fuck, 20k in student loan debt.

I live with my broke parents too, sob.
