I would generally agree with the thoughts others have said that you should not feel ashamed about having money, you got it through a generous gift followed by good sense and good management.

I really respect the idea of someone who can manage their money well.

I also agree that it is not a bad thing that you don't tell folks online how well-off you are. Like you said, you don't want to be a walking ATM again.

Keep being careful what you say, keep managing your finances well, and if you find a cause where you can help people in less fortunate positions, consider judicious charitable action.

If I got into a position like yours, I would like to think I would be as careful.
