This secret is the story of my life except it was family money I inherited. It's awkward trying to figure out whether it's safe to tell people. But you will find friends who won't treat you like a pariah or try to use you. As for offering money to friends, it's like giving advice: ask first and if they say no, then don't. (And don't lend money, that's a good way to damage friendships.)
