Divergent.

Because I hate it and I'm bitter it's semi-popular right now.

I just think it looks terrible. Just another YA movie the creators are hoping will be the next Hunger Games.

DA

considering how much money it has raked in, it will be the next hunger games. In that, it will be a sucessful series of movies that adapt YA books.

Nthed. The first book was mind-bogglingly stupid (hell, the premise is mind-bogglingly stupid), and I only got about a chapter into the second before even my trainwreck addiction gave up.

+1 to that first book being mind-bogglingly stupid. I only finished it because someone got it for me as a gift and it was a quick enough read it didn't take up too much of my time.

I was mildly interested in the books until I started seeing previews for the movie. It looks like the most unsubtle thing the world has seen in a while.

When I found out the author is only 26, it made more sense. Because that means she was about 23 when the first book was published and that means she was younger than that when she wrote it. I don't think age is magical for writing, but a younger writer (and I say that as a 23 year old writer) is more likely to write a more simplistic premise and plot. She rode the wave of the YA craze.

I actually thought the world was interesting, and was interested in what she might do with it...until the last the book.

I mean, I didn't like the main character from the beginning [she just struck me as...idk. Preachy, and how she was always right/framed as if she was in the right or blameless was really annoying],but the last book took it to a whole new level and I just...couldn't after that.
