all of the belgian beer. seriously, best in the world. leffe, hooegarden, grimbergen, duvel...
mexican beer is very nice too, especially when it's warm since it's very refreshing. basque beer is also very good.
generally you can't go wrong with local beer (except if it comes from a random person's basement or something). the best beer i've ever drunk was a sailor's brew on a tiny island near the west coast of france

Seconding all of this.

OP, I didn't think I liked beer for a long time (I come from a culture where kids drink with dinner) because all I was exposed to were the strong, bitter, hoppy beers my mother liked, or the cheapo college-kid beers my dad liked. Sometime between college and grad school I met someone who showed me how diverse beer was, and then I learned how good it can be.

My go-to is Hoegaarden, I also like Fin du Monde, Leffe, Deliruim Tremens, and Blue Moon. Anything by Bell's is worth trying - some is delicious, some is too harsh for me. Ditto with Unibroue (they brew Fin du Monde) and Revolution (whose availability outside Chicago is questionable, but if you're ever in CHI go to their brewery for like a five-hour lunch. So good.) Do you have friends who brew? Breweries near you? Go for a tasting and see what you like.

Beer is an acquired taste - if you don't like it at first, try cider - Angry Orchard is a good starting point.
