Those things that come in hard shrink-plastic packaging with no obvious way to open without tools and that turn into razor-sharp shards of death when you cut into them with scissors? Open those things with a manual can opener. Seriously, it works.

I heard someone once refer to the first as "adult-proof packaging". I have used that line ever since.

I refer to it as "Satan's little gift to retail". Yes, it's harder to shoplift. And it makes the world a worse place on every other metric.

Why is it harder to shoplift? Most of the packaging I have seen doesn't change when you pay for it.

I think this is about all those smaller things like electronic gadgets that are sold in really big plastic packaging so you can't slip it into your pocket as easily? Like an USB flash drive, it's pretty small and easy to steal and so it gets harder to shoplift it when it's encased in a packaging 5 times the size of the actual product.
