My parents always let me have a sip of their drinks, and based on what my dad drinks, I assumed I didn't like beer. He encouraged me to try a locally brewed wheat ale and now it's my favorite beer. I have also tried, and enjoyed, other wheat ales and blonde ales.

I would like to develop more of a palate for beer.

Anyway, if your issue is that you don't like the bitter taste of beer, blonde and wheat ales are a place to start. However, if your issue is that you don't like the taste of alcohol in general, I might not be able to help you. (Is it just beer/wine, or other drinks too? It could be that stronger drinks in general are not your thing.)
