Is there a point to secrecy when I'm the only named poster who talks about my fandom?

[personal profile] feotakahari 2014-03-28 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, the only other unanon posters I can remember admitting to watching MLP are Insanenoodlyguy and Otakugal, both of whom apparently have issues with the fandom. Every once in a while, someone other than me submits an MLP secret, but I submit the majority of them, and I sometimes submit secrets about things I've already referenced unanon. Is there even a point to trying to hide which secrets are mine? (I don't want to start commenting on my own secrets like I'm not the OP, and since I comment on every MLP secret I don't submit . . .)

Then again, I suppose it's less obvious whose secrets are whose than it sometimes seems. I submitted a Twilight Zone secret once, and people thought it was by someone called Wicked223.

I'll own up. I like MLP.

I read cupcakes. I am suspicious.

I actually haven't read Cupcakes, to be honest. I didn't feel that reading it would improve my fandom experience, you know? (Though I am partial to the idea that there's more to Pinkie than is commonly observed--Party of One was pretty over-the-top even for this show, at least until Lesson Zero blew it away.)

It's not well-written and there's nothing of value to it, really. As shock fiction it's boring and not that shocking. I felt I wasted my time reading it.

Yeah, I didn't read it all the way through myself. it's pretty meh.

This is kind of why I don't submit more secrets. Either no one would care because the things I love tend to be more obscure (or at least not the kind of stuff with big fandoms) or people would guess it was me (though at this point I don't think anyone has noticed my tendency to talk about old movies and weird books as much as I feel like I have).

There are a few of us with obscure fandoms and not-so-latent bibliophiliia. You never know, posting about them might as least get some FSers to try something different for a change.

MLP has a big enough following that I don't assume it's anyone in particular, especially considering they tend to be wankbait secrets for some reason.

I'm a bit more guarded about making secrets about some of my tiny fandoms, though.

Have you seen the fandom? It's hard not to!

People post MLP secrets all the time, and it's an enormous fandom. Nobody that I recall has ever tried to guess the writer of an MLP secret.

Also, I watch and love MLP! :3

I wouldn't have known you liked mlp if you hadn't made this comment.

It's the only thing I like that I regularly read fic for, so whenever anyone asks a question about fandom, I always wind up answering it in reference to MLP. (I like Ace Attorney, too, but I don't read a lot of fic for it, so . . .)

I don't think people track other peoples interests that much. Unless you're secretly spreadsheet anon.

I watch MLP, I just don't talk about it very often.

My overall impression has always been that the number of anons and lurkers here is a good deal larger than the number of regular posters, so I think the overall volume of posters/submitters is what you should be concerned with, not the number signed in. If there's enough of them, then all you need for plausible deniability is to be less dependable about commenting on every single MLP secret posted.

I watch it, but I do have some problems with certain sectors of the fandom [which, as Noodle said, it can be pretty hard not to in some cases.]
