Americans shoving their nose in a country they are an ocean away from in geography and issues is pretty irritating, yes.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-28 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe, but here are a few things that are more irritating:

1. Racism.
2. People who use "AMERICANS!!!!!!" as an excuse for their own special, superior, at-least-it's-not-American racism.

Oh yes, telling off Americans who think the history of slavery in Morocco is the same as the history of slavery in the USA is so much harder than cultural imperialism.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-28 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, because we were discussing the history of slavery in Morocco.... oh. never.

No, sorry, when USA's government has more power on what's going on my country than any of the people living here I think that's a bigger issue than racism.
This is becoming more and more off topic, but please, just stop disregarding the issues many of us have with your country's political and cultural power over other countries.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-28 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
You are right, this has absolutely nothing to do with the topic. Or does your baggage about the United States affect your opinion on Danaerys being a white savior?

(and no, I'm not American)

(Anonymous) 2014-03-28 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Canadians still count as Americans

(Anonymous) 2014-03-28 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Well, at least now I can rest knowing you were just a troll after all..

(Anonymous) 2014-03-28 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I think they would be very upset to hear that.

Canadian here (but NAYRT): I hope this means I can now do some cross-border shopping without having to pay duty on my purchases.

I'm sorry, I thought my last line made it clear that there are some kernels or good sense in a lot of these arguments but apparently that wasn't as clear as I thought. I do agree that Americans tend to apply our own history of racism to areas of the world where things are different and that should stop. But the solution isn't to replace Americancentrism with a focus on another random country. We need to look at the context that is actually relevant.
