Today dad found out that he won this year's Distinguished Teaching Award for UWF's College of Arts & Science division (he's an adjunct instructor who teaches World Religions and Intro to Religion) and he's too modest to brag about it so I AM DOING IT FOR HIM.

Anyone else gotten any great news lately?

Um, I found out that my parents don't think I'm a lazy bum. They do think that my brother's girlfriend needs to get a job and when my brother and her called to ask for money and they responded with that, she tried to justify it by saying that they are supporting me and my dad just told them not to bring me into it and hung up on them. And then I overheard them ranting about how my situation is different and how dare she talk about me like that.

I've been feeling really guilty about being out of school and unemployed so that was really nice to hear.

It's a really great feeling when your parents stand up for you like that. I'm in a somewhat similar situation, so I understand how much of a relief it is to hear that kind of thing from your family.

The Angels released Joe Blanton! He won't be there stinking up every 5th game! I'm fucking ecstatic; even though I think the A's will take the division, I'm feelin' that Wild Card.

I feel like both the AL West race and the AL Wildcard race are going to be insane. The AL West is going to be really entertaining - the A's are really good and fun to watch, the Rangers have a ridiculous offense + Yu, the Mariners signed Cano but are probably still going to suck which amuses me, and you guys obviously have the best player in all of baseball on your team so that's always good.

And then in the wildcard race you have to deal with that plus at least one of Tampa Bay and Boston who are probably both going to be ridiculous, plus Baltimore if they're for real, and maybe Cleveland if they can put together another good year. I just feel like there's going to be a lot of really ridiculous, really tight, fun races this year (NL could be interesting too but it feels like the Cardinals and Dodgers are just too good there) (alas). Kind of rooting for the Angels to make it, mostly because I'd like to see Trout in the playoffs.

Gosh I can't wait for baseball to come back! ALMOST THERE SO EXCITED

The Rangers have a bunch of people hurt, especially in their bullpen, so I think they'll start much slower than they'd like to (which is okay by me!). I have this love-hate thing with Yu, where I want the Rangers to lose; but I really do like him ~~and his pretty faaaace~~ and want to keep watching him. XD

I saw a comment about the Angels and a picture of Freema Agyeman and my brain went to a very different place than you intended.

If Blanton is pitching for them, I understand completely why they're weeping!

It certainly would have saved us a lot of money if we could have just tapped him on the shoulder and sent him to the 1890s or something.

I'm completely clueless when it comes to professional sports (well, sports that don't involve horses, at any rate), but I'm happy for you anyway!

I've gotten acceptances for a short story and a novella. My short will be in the Mnemosyne Anthology: http://mnemosyneanthology.wordpress.com/ My novella will be published by Alban Lake Publishing under the title "Blood Price"--I might post about it again once we've got a release date set.

Just a couple months ago I decided that I would like to try to get something published (after years of just writing for fun) so I'm looking forward to the day when I can make an announcement like this.
