what is "narmy" and "glurge"?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-28 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
UD says:

Narmy: A conjunction of the word Navy and Army; A sailor's term for the Army transition as an Individual Augmentation volunteer or GSA while still attached to the Navy.

Glurge: Anything overly sappy, corny, or kitchy used to incite an emotional reaction. It is usually fictional, absurd and over-exaggerated and therefore fails at its intended task.

...yeaaaaaaaaah, I have no idea either. Maybe they meant "sturm and drang"? Have to confess, I also have no idea who the person in the secret it.

LOL at this definition of "narmy." It's from the term/trope "narm" from what was supposed to be a dramatic scene in Six Feet Under. Check the Tv Tropes link other anon gives further down.

I'm not good at defining things so hopefully this helps. I've also only seen narm used on tvtropes, but I've seen glurge on a few other sites.

(I don't know if this posted already or not, so if it did, sorry!)

Interesting ... though they aren't displacing "faffing about" as my current logophilic crush.

from a blog on wordpress:

A Narm is a moment that is supposedly dramatic or emotional but through overacting, excessive drama, or just plain sappiness becomes hilarious or absurd.

Narm is when a moment is supposed to be intense, dramatic, and/or emotionally gripping, but was ill-conceived in some way and ends up being funny or ridiculous instead. Think Spider-Man 3.

Glurge is when a moment tries to pack in too much emotion and ends up being eye-rollingly saccharine or stupid. Like if there's a grand farewell and all the characters hug each other a dozen times and give tearful speeches about how much the others meant to them, that would be both narmy and glurgey.

My question too. I can make up words myself.
