AO3 Etiquette Question

I'm planning on writing a longish fic that will be pretty evenly split into developing two pairings. One of these pairings is fairly unpopular, and the other one is pretty nonexistent. However, I'm also including two side pairings that will be established relationships, and both of these pairings are pretty popular in fandom as well as almost unanimously accepted.

Should I include these two side pairings when I'm tagging pairings for this fic? I don't want to be a douche trying to get more readers by tagging popular pairings that won't have all that much focus. Should I just say that the pairings will be included in an author's note at the beginning of the first chapter?

Do it the other way around: tag the pairings, but then mention that they'll be just side pairings in the author's note.

Seconding this. Be careful with using 'Background A/B' instead of just 'A/B' as a tag - people tend to search for 'A/B', thus not getting 'Background' even though they might be willing to read a fic in which they are a background pairing. (But if you think this sort of thing won't be an issue in your fandom, then just go ahead and use the background pairing tags - this seems to change fandom to fandom).

I would tag it as, "A/B, C/D, Background E/F, Background G/H." That way it lets potential readers know that those side pairings are present (if they really want to avoid them for whatever reason) without bait-and-switching E/F and G/H fans into thinking the fic is about their OTPs.

It's an SNK fic, and the main pairings will be Eren/Annie and Armin/Mikasa, and the side pairings will be Ymir/Christa and Reiner/Bertholdt.
