i prefer it over turn-based combat, because it adds to the tension of the situation. in turn based games you can just eat a burger with one hand and play with the other but in real time combat you have to concentrate on what's going on and stay vigilant, and i think it's a lot more immersive. turn based fights don't feel like fights to me, they feel like a chess game. that's great, but not what i think of when i think 'vicious fight'.

this. hell, i've gotten up to go do the dishes in the middle of turn-based games. they can be fun and they're plenty of them that i enjoy, but i hate the sitting around and waiting for each character to take their turn.
