I thought it was the other way around. All the turn-based, strategy gamers feeling superior over the FPS crowd.

Not that I care either way. I'm like you, no judgement. It would be like despising coffee drinkers just because I only like tea, although I'm sure there's some corner of the internet where that happens as well.

I'm not convinced that's how things really break down. On the one hand, you have the resurgence of "hardcore" roguelikes, RPGs, and 4X games with the indie game renaissance. And on the other hand many "casual" games are not turn-based and may not even have a useful pause feature. Tetris is cited as the prototypical "casual" game (simple ruleset) but depends on time pressure.

...I thought was the other way around. There's a whole cadre of "hardcores" who think old school RPGs (in the original Japanese) are real tests of ability, and people who play shit like CoD and HALO are the "casuals".
