I think I prefer real-time because I can get very bored with turn-based combat, but I've played games where I've enjoyed turn-based so really I think it just depends on the game.

I like turn-based because my reflexes are shit and my attempts at real-time would probably wind up punching myself in the crotch if most systems made that possible...
Also you get to plan better.

The worst turn-based I ever had was Persona 3 though, because that basically involves sitting around for most of the turns whilst your AI-run party demonstrates that 'intelligence' is not the right word.
(I kinda find that in real-time party-based single-player combat, except I am also getting my face torn off at the same time.)

Ahh, I'm the opposite, my reflexes and reaction times are pretty good so real-time combat typically suits me so much better, also I am the worst at any kind of planning or strategy in games. I do try but it invariably turns to shit, I am just not good at thinking turns ahead.

(AI are always infuriating, no matter the game, because they do STUPID ASS THINGS. I'm looking at you Garrus, stop standing out in the open getting shot at you ninny.)

The original Persona 3 took it to interesting levels. Like, I'm playing, and Mitsuru is in my party. Mitsuru has heal spells, ice spells, and a charm spell. The MC is on very low health, and if the MC dies then Game Over.

You can bet with pretty much absolute certainty that Mitsuru is gonna pull out her charm spell, and that it's gonna miss.

(So glad they changed the battle engine to 4's in the PSP remake because being able to have direct control of your entire party is the best thing ever.)
