I can't imagine someone well off wanting to be even as poor as I am

I can. I've met them. They are the worst people alive. Don't even get me started on freeganism.

Oh Jesus don't remind me of them. I live in Seattle, I have to live with those douchebags on a daily basis.

...I have no idea what "freeganism" is and probably don't want to, but if there are well-to-do people out there who really want to be poor, they are welcome to donate to me any excess money that's bothering them.

People with well-paying jobs who basically dumpster dive for everything, and try and get everything they can for free. Even though they can afford new stuff, and the stuff they "freeganate" (?? isthataword) is basically no longer available for those poor enough who could really use it.

O.o da here

I just wikipedia'd Freeganism. Wow.

I don't actually think there's anything wrong, philosophically, with wanting to separate yourself from materialism. I don't know if I can respect someone with plenty of money dumpster diving, but I don't really buy that dumpsters are the sole sustainable factor for people in poverty and a few rich kids taking half eaten burgers are directly harming the poor... but whatever. I still don't really understand this movement as I only glanced at the wikipedia page, but pro-environment, anti-materialistic efforts don't scream "Docuhebag" to me?

probably better off donating money to a charity who knows what they are doing, but...

ayrt

The thing is, they're not pro-environment, nor anti-materialistic..they're just unnecessary cheapskates.

FTR, my family fostered abandoned and abused furniture left on the side of the road for many years when I was growing up...but we definitely were NOT "freegans" by choice.

If they're the worst people alive, you must live a pretty sheltered life, lol.

Oh no, people misguidedly but benignly trying to do the right thing!

Punch yourself in the face and then go look up hyperbole. Then punch yourself in the face again.

Also, they're not trying to "do the right thing" at all.

Oh my god, if you honestly think that freegans are trying to do the right thing in any way, shape, or form, I genuinely fear for your ability to judge character.
