...I have no idea what "freeganism" is and probably don't want to, but if there are well-to-do people out there who really want to be poor, they are welcome to donate to me any excess money that's bothering them.

People with well-paying jobs who basically dumpster dive for everything, and try and get everything they can for free. Even though they can afford new stuff, and the stuff they "freeganate" (?? isthataword) is basically no longer available for those poor enough who could really use it.

O.o da here

I just wikipedia'd Freeganism. Wow.

I don't actually think there's anything wrong, philosophically, with wanting to separate yourself from materialism. I don't know if I can respect someone with plenty of money dumpster diving, but I don't really buy that dumpsters are the sole sustainable factor for people in poverty and a few rich kids taking half eaten burgers are directly harming the poor... but whatever. I still don't really understand this movement as I only glanced at the wikipedia page, but pro-environment, anti-materialistic efforts don't scream "Docuhebag" to me?

probably better off donating money to a charity who knows what they are doing, but...

ayrt

The thing is, they're not pro-environment, nor anti-materialistic..they're just unnecessary cheapskates.

FTR, my family fostered abandoned and abused furniture left on the side of the road for many years when I was growing up...but we definitely were NOT "freegans" by choice.
