I hate real-time combat in JRPG-type games. I treat those as pure strategy, and want to take my time thinking up long strings of moves to execute in my mind.

But I like real-time combat in most other things, like Metroid and Contra.

The last real-time combat JRPG game I played was Children of Mana. Such a pretty game. Amazing cut scenes. Then the gameplay was so repetitive and tiresome that it's put me off real-time combat for the foreseeable future.
