Dramatical Murder Anime?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-30 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently, Dramatical Murder, that yaoi visual novel game that got really popular, is getting an anime this year. There's even a trailer out already. I just heard about it, with the speculation that the anime itself won't actually have canon yaoi because it will only follow the "common" path (so they don't have to pick a love interest) and it can be shown on TV.

I am kind of excited, but will be sad if a BL game anime doesn't get to actually have any BL. That was just a rumor, though.

Wasn't that the case with Togainu no Chi as well? I never watched it, but I think it had no real BL to speak of despite the very explicit game. I don't know why they do that, actually. There are enough other manga/games that could benefit from an anime adaption without cutting out most of the stuff that made people read/play them.

ayrt I haven't watched or played that one, but I heard it brought up when I read the rumor that Dramatical Murder's anime might not have any gay in it.

I guess... I understand in the sense that, the creator's probably don't want to pick "one" true romance option for Aoba, when there are fans at every corner. At best they could justify maybe the "true path" secret romance character, but I can say that one wasn't my personal favorite either. So what do they do, create multiple alternative endings with different character romances? Try to showcase Aoba with all the romances in the main storyline? Or cut them all together?

But if they are just trying to mainstream it, it's kind of sad they have to cut gay content. Cutting explicit sex is, whatever, because I guess Dramatical Murder has enough of a plot to work with for a non-romance anime. But, I mean, the game's audience is probably 100% yaoi fans, so what's the point of cutting it?

I'll still watch the anime though. :P

(I actually think this whole "we can bait more people to watch it if we don't decide on one pairing and risk alienating a part of the fandom" is one of the reasons that Free! for all its fujoshibaiting will never have a canon pairing.)

I think I would watch it as well - it has a pretty cool look even without any explicit or even shippy content. I think it will still have all kinds of hints, though, considering even non-yaoi-game based anime have those XD

LOL hints are a given! All anime, no matter if they have straight romances and are targeted toward guys, must have slash subtext, and anyone who thinks it's an accident is in denial. Kidding. But not really.

I think you're right about Free. It was made as fujoshibait, so basically designed to have slashy subtext, but as you said, almost definitely won't go canon because a) ship wars and b) I don't think it could market itself as a mainstream anime if it went gay, at least now it can somewhat pretend it's actually about swimming.

I actually liked a lot of the story in Dramatical Murder, and think it would be interesting to see it explored more. But even if they follow the "common" path, a certain event with Mink still happens...

(Or maybe it's because Free's light novels aka the source material doesn't have any romance in the first place? Just a thought.)

nayrt

not to get into more Free! wank, but... sure, that's true, but isn't the anime pretty much totally different? not totally different, per se, but much evolved from the light novel? It's not like it's following the same story, iirc. And, if I remember correctly, Free! was made because slash fans gave such a positive response to the shirtless, slashy promotional pictures they sent out before the anime got the green light... so there's no denying that it was pretty much tailored, in its creation, for slash subtext.

I agree it probably won't go canon, but I don't think the reasons are because of the light novels.

This rumor is super crazy tumblr-levels of untrue.

It takes more than a few months to make an animated series.

Also that's kind of Kyoani's thing to make a 30 promo for their upcoming series. KnK also got one.

Eh. Have you seen what happened to the Kuroshitsuji anime in comparison to the manga? And that's just one example. I don't really think source material is very sacred.

Free's light novels were just prequels involving the cast when they were kids, so that's a bit different. The story of the anime itself was a continuation, not an adaptation.

VN adaptations can end with someone winning, but common path is more likely because fans get upset when their best girl doesn't win.

Best guy, in this case?

I wonder if they will include a certain scene with Mink that appears in the common path - it would be pretty random if that were the only explicit scene in the entire anime.

There's always the Harem End.

I've not read the vn, but they can follow a route. There just won't be any porn in it if they do.

I'll be sad if they pull a Togainu no Chi and get rid of the BL content. Hentai game adaptations drop the sex but not the romance (or go the Yosuga no Sora route and don't even drop the sex) so it's irritating that BL game adaptations feel the need to drop the BL.

I also hope it doesn't pull a Togainu no Chi and suck, but that's a different matter entirely.
