Small, efficient objects. They have to be small enough to have a tactile presence in three dimensions, they have to be designed to do something, they have to do that thing well, and they have to not have extraneous design features that reduce efficiency. Then, given all that, they have to be beautiful. Certain smartphones, certain weapons, certain tools (mini-crowbars!), certain pens, even a travel-size pill case can have this appeal to me.

Firefly fans, you remember how the bounty hunter Jubal Early talked about his pistol in "Objects In Space"? Basically exactly that.
