I just finished Breaking Bad

I know, I know, I'm late to the party. I watched the last three episodes in one go.

That's how I felt when I read through Death of the Family recently.

What did you think of it? I thought it was a satisfying finale, but I was really surprised that Jesse lived.

I liked it a lot. Probably one of the most emotional shows I've ever seen.

I'd been spoiled for Walt and Hank dying and Jesse living when I was around season 2, but I thought it was a very well told ending. For most of the show, I'd disliked and then hated Walter, but his saying goodbye to Skyler and Holly really made me feel sorry for him.

I was surprised that they killed off Andrea. That was such a punch in the gut.

I felt the same about Walt. I knew he would have to die, but I didn't know about Hank. And poor Andrea.

Everything you mentioned- is exactly how I felt.

I loved the ending but felt it was a bit too tidy. Also, I think nothing can top Ozymandius so it seemed lackluster in comparison.

When he took Holly was one of the most heartbreaking parts of the show. Ozymandius really was the most climatic part of the ending and the rest felt like things winding down.

I read a review that suggested the last 3 episodes kind of covered all possible endings for the show, as far as Walter was concerned (he disappears; he ends up helpless in exile; he reappears, phantom-like, to key people in a way that adds to his urban legend quality before disappearing again; he sets up a way to accomplish his initial goal of getting money to his family; he admits he did everything for himself; he kills the last major antagonists and releases Jesse; he dies). It was interesting to see in the review's comments where people wanted the ending to fall, iirc Ozymandias was a popular headcanon endpoint.

I did think the actual ending felt a little tidy, too, though, given how everything Walter ever did snowballed beyond his control. Even though one can extrapolate the fallout of everything he does in the last episode, the fallout's not actively presented for once. And as much as I appreciated that his death was shown and the shot of him crumpling in the tank's hazy reflection, part of me wanted him not to get all the way to the lab.

Oh my god, that would have been FANTASTIC.

Hmmm, I like the idea of that for the last 3 episodes. I'll have to see if I can find that review.

Ayrt

I think this was the article (not a review, as I had mistakenly remembered), and it posits that the possible endings extend further back than the last 3 eps, but the idea is there:

http://www.avclub.com/article/the-many-exciting-conclusions-of-breaking-bad-2013-200671

I forgot the comments were a bit of a minefield on that article -- some good stuff talking about the final episodes, but also some backlash on the hype Breaking Bad was still getting at the time, etc.

Oh, that was me about a month ago. I also did the final three in one go, though as it was so intense (and I was crying through just about the entirety of all three of them due to both the intensity and EMOTIONS DAMN IT) I had to take about a 20 minute break between each to calm myself down.

When it was over I probably spent about an hour just curled up in bed, just hysterically crying.

...And I've only just started it (not even finished three episodes, lmao) so I'm even more late to the party. Oh wells.

Anyway, from the (very) little I've seen of Breaking Bad, it's incredible.

Enjoy the journey. In my opinion, it gets a lot better in season 2.

It really does. I only really liked the first season after I watched everything after. Then I really connected to the characters and everything.
