I would agree with your comment that there's no such thing as a ridiculous "trigger". However, expecting warnings for everything under the sun, because someone somewhere is triggered, does actually make for ridiculous "trigger warnings".

The thing is, whenever this stuff comes up there are always some people who do seem to be genuinely mocking the actual trigger and/or the act of warning, rather than the expectation of warning.

There are very few things that have been mentioned in this thread that I'd warn for by default or consider reasonable to expect warnings for; at the same time, there are also very few things in this thread that I'd be unwilling to warn for if one of my friends needed me to. It'd be unrealistic and unwise of them to expect it from the general userbase, sure, but I don't think that either their hypothetical need or my hypothetical courtesy should be considered mock-worthy or 'defeating the purpose' of warnings.
