Re: Most ridiculous "trigger warnings"?

I agree that it shouldn't be a *trigger* warning but I kind of get why people like to be warned for character death.
People read fanfiction to get specific emotional fixes. Fanfic can be so very specifically tailored for your exact needs, there are so many ways in which you can find a story that presses the exact emotional buttons you want pressed at that moment. And that's part of what people like about fanfiction. Published books are a different matter, and people come to them with different expectations.

So yeah, sometimes I just don't want to read a fic where my favorite character dies right at that moment.
But then, there are the convenient "choose not to use archive warnings" tags in Ao3, so you can get around it if you really want to.

Yeah, this is my view.

Unfortunately, there are some archives that require warnings, and sometimes it ends up defeating the purpose.

Like having to tag a "character death".. when there are several close calls, but only one real death, at the very end of a 500K fic, and of a character that is greatly hated in said fandom.

So, then the author is yelled at for "misleading the audience".

Ah, fandom. Never change.
