Perhaps you could aim for the re-release that had all the games in one package? If you try to put away a little money each time you have some to spare, I'm sure you'll manage to save up in no time!

hey, don't feel bad because you need to prioritize insurance and food over video games, ok? i'm sure bioware would appreciate the money, but right now you need it more than they do.

if you play on pc maybe you could buy a digital copy on steam when it goes on sale? i did just that this winter and i paid like 6€ for mass effect 1 and 2. it's not the same as a physical copy but you're still giving something back to the people who worked on it.

Steam sales are the best, but unfortunately, 3's only found on Origin for stupid, stupid reasons. It's probably the biggest problem on Steam. So if that might bug you, think about it.

Dunno what kind of sales Origin (EA's service) offers, but they're probably not as frequent and drastic as Steam.

They're not often but keeping an eye on Amazon is not a bad idea either. I scored a copy of ME3 Deluxe on Amazon (digital, activates on Origin) for like...$7 a while back. There's also this site which lets you see when/where a game is on sale and I think it lets you set an alert if it drops to a certain price too.
I scored all my games on sale which...only kind of took the sting out of paying so much for the DLC, ughhhhhh.

Damn, I forgot all about Amazon. And that site's brilliant: thanks!

Bless you for that site.

This. Put 1 and 2 on your wishlist on Steam and buy them when they go on sale.

I'm still a bit bitter you have to use Origin for ME3. idk if they have sales.

For a long time I considered stealing ME3 but then I decided to just shrug it off and get it for Christmas.

It takes a bit of fuckery but it's totally possible to play it through Steam.

My (everlasting) bitterness over the ending of ME3 prompts me to say GOOD!

I wish I had pirated mine.

I hated the ending too, but I really do not understand that making you hate the entire series. It's too good, too rich, too immersive for the ending to just...erase everything that you've already gotten from it. o.o

I wouldn't say it ruins the entire series, but I would say it definitely leaves a bad enough taste in my mouth that subsequent re-plays have had me going "What's the point?"

Yeah, I can get that...personally I just headcanon a different ending, which is pretty easy since almost everyone hates the canon ending.

Some endings can retroactively taint the previous entries for people. I've read a some stories about people who lost all will to replay the trilogy because knowing it was all going to culminate in those last ten minutes of ME3 made it all seem futile. I've experienced that feeling with other series myself.

That sucks. I tend to just headcanon a different, or at least altered, ending (basically I like fixit destroy, so basically the Crucible ends up doing exactly what it was built to do, and then it doesn't suck).

Tell this to post-soviet block where EVERYONE pirated games (or bought cheap black-market copies before the internet). Hell, computers in proper shops had illegal Windows on them along with other software till about 2004 (the time when XP had this one update which had forced a legality check? Companies had been flabgastered with their PCs locking).

I still do pirate despite moving, bills are a priority (and yup, need to save for those). One day..., one day...

(Anonymous) 2014-04-02 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
no one cares if you pirate. not even those self-righteous pricks who pretend they care about people pirating.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-02 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's my experience. As long as you're not acting as though pirating is doing the creators a favor or something, most people are just gonna roll their eyes and move on.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-02 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'm weak. I own the entire trilogy on all three platforms. And I'm not exactly rich either. D:

Just buy a copy of the trilogy when you can afford it, if you feel that guilty.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-02 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I dual-platformed myself. I tried to convince myself that the game just plays better on console, and then I went and bought a controller for my PC.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-02 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Though I personally go :\ at pirating games, this secret doesn't make me angry or anything, because I can understand what you're going through. However, if you have like 40+ games and they're ALL pirated, then I'd doubt your sincerity, but since it only really sounds like these are the only games you pirated, don't sweat OP, just make sure to buy them when you actually get the money for them.

If it makes you feel any better, I had stolen copies of Thief Gold, 2 and 3 as well as System Shock 2 because at the time (2004-2006) all but Thief 3 (which was brand new for 2004) were considered old, extremely rare, and in the case of SS2, very expensive ($80 for the full box.)

And even after I got physical copies of all the games, I kept my ISOs handy just to preserve my disks. That and the SS2 disc check deliberately used bad sectors and the grinding noise made my balls recede into my lungs.

Of course, now they're all on Steam and GoG.com. Progress!

Don't worry. I won't tell Samara.

If you don't play on PC, I've found the games for pretty cheap used. No more than $20 for each one and probably less than that.
