It's a joke. A lot of his characteristics are parodies of how characters in other sports anime are portrayed as being completely and distressingly obsessed with their sport to the point where it's fucking weird although everyone in their shows just treats it as normal. Haru would probably fit right in if he was in a traditional sports anime but instead he gets stuck with friends who react to his antics the way sane people would. It's a fucking joke

He doesn't have any difficulty empathizing with others, or understanding their feelings, though. And I'm also not getting how we're jumping to a typical autistic social inability, when Haru is quiet but hardly stunted.
