Durarara is better than Baccano.

And the whole 1930s period is overated as a setting.

Durarara is better than Baccano for the first 12 episodes which is the only part of Durarara that I am willing to acknowledge exists

Yo, I'm interested in why you consider Durarara!! to be better than Baccano!. I hope that is not a rude question!

It's been years since I last watched them, so my critique is going to be less nuanced than it once was.

Specifically, I found the city to be a significantly more compelling setting - really impressed me, Durarara has a great handle on urban myth, and the characters whilst probably less complicated where very nicely characteristed in a larger than life way.

Plus the story and characters were just more my speed.

I'm watching Durarara for the first time now. It's been really cool so far..one of the coolest shows I've seen in a while.

My roommate made me feel awkward at the beginning of the year by basically insisting that Baccano was objectively better and not leaving a lot of room for opinion. I haven't even seen Baccano, and she was like "you will like it better when you see it" over and over states as fact even when I tried to change the subject/end the conversation.

I was excited at first to have a nerdy roommate, but this interaction was a big part of the reason I ended up avoiding interacting with her much at first, and now she just gets on my nerves. ah, well. /csb
