What are some unpopular fandom opinions?

Re: Not the end of the world, but...

(Anonymous) 2014-04-04 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine:

I don't really care for most of Disney's recent stuff.

I don't think bronies are inherently worse than any other fandom.

I don't like how social media has allowed fans to interact with celebrities.

Modern Family: I really don't love Mitchell/Cam as much as I wish I did. I love them as characters, but sometimes their arcs make me wonder how they ended up raising a kid together and getting engaged. I want to love them, but the fact that they still can't be honest with one another bothers me.

Harry Potter: I liked Hagrid, and never saw the hate in all the seven years I was in fandom. Yes, he was a horrible teacher and maybe not the best role model, but I liked the purpose he served, and that was what mattered to me. (Although I didn't like his role in HBP.)

I don't like Young Avengers. Some of the characters seem like they could potentially be interesting, but the comics are so boring I can't bring myself to give a shit about them.

I enjoyed the film adaptation of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen a lot more than the comics.

I thought Star Trek XI was just as terrible as ST:ID.

And speaking of Star Trek, I really like Tasha Yar.

Slash fic breaking uop canon het (i.e., long-term together/married) couples always seems to skew the characters so I can barely recognize any of them.

I'd so prefer reading threesomes with the M/M/F in question than "Female character is so awful/i>!!!11!11 Male character one needs Male character two's healing cock!" What's wrong with, "Female character thinks both guys are hot, invites Male character two to bed with them and everyone's happy"? Seriously?

I got some:

- I don't care about Disney* at all, old nor new... I don't feel nostalgic about Lion King and even as a child I hated Toy Story...

*Pixar, Dreamworks and such

- I don't care about Loki, beyond the fact that he wasn't an awful Villain.

- Neither Tom Hiddleston nor Benedict Cumberbatch are people I think are the most amazing sophisticated cool people on earth.

- I didn't like Rory, Amy or Rose in Doctor Who, not that I disliked them I just didn't connect...

- And lastly and least seriously I don't get the obsession people have with actors and actresses butts...

K: I find Saruhiko Fushimi pretty annoying. I know he's trying to get Yata's goat with the "Miii-sa-kiiii" thing but I also find it pretty annoying as a viewer.

I only liked him once, when I was listening to the special drama CD and he was listing out a huge list of everything he hates.

Also, Fushimi/Yata is consequently my least favorite K pair of the 3 big ones.

I don't like Floki. (Vikings.) His voice/mannerisms/everything irritates me.

I like the idea of Ragnar/Athelstan (and Lagertha/Athelstan/Ragnar), but think Athelstan deserves better (as does Lagartha). (At least I think this is an unpopular opinion because I see SO much Ragnar/Athelstan praise on tumblr.)

I find Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to be genuinely entertaining and think it could be much worse.

I probably would've liked Thor: The Dark World more if Loki had in fact stayed dead. Bringing him back and having him keep on fooling everyone indefinitely is not something I'm interested in. It would have been a nice moment of (semi)redemption had he actually died selflessly, but now he gets to live and keep fucking up everything for everyone.

Peter Hale needs to die and stay dead. He's had some good moments, I won't deny that, but he's outlived his welcome imo and now his continued existence just makes me rage.

I like the new Star Trek movies. They're fun, pretty action flicks even if they don't live up to people's expectations. They don't need to be amazing and flawless re-imaginings of the original Trek for me to enjoy them.

Snow/Charming (ONCE) are adorable together and extremely lovable characters.

I'm kind of glad Firefly ended when it did.

I hate pretty much all Pixar movies, or at least dislike them. It's very hard for me to take any movie seriously that is CGI.

Legend of Korra was better than Avatar The Last Airbender.

Zack of Final Fantasy VII is obnoxious. He was fine in the original game, where he was in a ten second optional secret scene and said about five sentences. He is probably the worst part about the Compilation.

Dragon Age 2 > Dragon Age Origins, and both are better than Elder Scrolls.

Star Wars Episode 1, 2 and 3 weren't that bad. Jar Jar Binks was kind of adorable. what? come at me, bros.

The Internet and fandom in general were more fun in the late 90s early 2000s.

The Walking Dead Game did protecting your adopted daughter throughout a zombie-infested post-apocalyptic hellscape better than The Last Of Us.

FFVIII wasn't a terrible game at all. At least until the third disc.

FFXII on the other hand is completely overrated.

The original CoD games were truly excellent and CoD4 is one of the best FPS games ever made. ...Sure have gone downhill in quality now though...

But frankly Ghosts is better than Blops 2 where it counts.

I'm so sick of stereotypical protagonists and stereotypical, trope-riddled backstories that I won't buy/watch/read/play an otherwise good piece of media if it has either and pretends to give two shits about its story.

Though on that count, I think enough noise has been made about having more female protagonists, but what about men who aren't white? Seriously, what the shit? Sure, you can make an argument that women are disproportionately less likely to play/watch/read certain genres but men who aren't white sure fucking aren't. Why the fuck are we still doing "token black guy who dies"? Why is Army of fucking Two more progressive in this respect - having black, hispanic, Asian, and even ~gasp~ mixed race protagonists - than supposedly "serious" and "highbrow" games?

Reposted after misfire:

Despite their flaws, I enjoy both Legend of Korra and Agents of Shield.

I like FFXII more than FFVII, Mike more than Joel and Life of Brian more than Holy Grail. Granted, in both cases it's like saying I like custard-filled doughnuts more than cream-filled, but it's not like I'm going to say no to either one.

I wanted to love The Lego Movie, but instead I found it to be bland, trite and surprisingly unimaginative.

G3 My Little Pony is still my favorite as far as character-design goes, even if G4 is my favorite overall.

I think Katniss should ditch both Peeta and Gale and marry Johanna instead.

-I can't stand the Avengers or anything from the MCU. The Avengers was so boring. I don't see why people cream themselves over these movies.

-I'm not a big fan of Disney. I can't really even remember the last Disney movie I've watched.

-I don't understand the obsession with Benedict Cumberbatch. He looks like a lizard.

-I just couldn't get into Breaking Bad. I watched a few episodes and I was totally uninterested. Same with Mad Men.

-I think the Sherlock and SPN fandoms are the worst.

-Fandom was much more fun on places like LJ and internet forums. Screw Tumblr.

That's all I've got for now.

I not only dislike Hiddleston-style Loki, I find it really hard to care about anything that happens in MCU Asgard. It's just not my thing. But I love MCU Thor more than enough to make up for it. I also like Jane Foster and wish she had more to do in the two Thor movies.

I want a 100% Midgard-based Thor adventure with lots of adorable cultural misunderstandings and Thanksgiving dinner at the Fosters, and saving the day through a combination of Jane's scientific expertise and Thor's Thorishness.

Most people who share my love of Thor seem to want the entire movie to be about Asgardians, and don't care about Jane at all.

I guess inspired by #13- I think people are too hung up on the concept of literature as an artform. I think that books are meant to entertain people and if they don't do their job, it is a failing on the part of the author.

I think the fan theory that they should have made the group of assholes learn sign language instead of giving the dude with the throat injury assisstive technology is a fucking stupid idea worthy of the most head-up-their-ass SJW. I mean, the "assisstive technology" turned out to be Hannibal Lecter IN SPACE, but there was no way for them to know that was going to happen ahead of time; I'm not even sure they knew the computer program was sentinent before they stuck it in his head.
I really want to break the glasses of everyone who passes that meme around and tell them, "they're an insult to your independence!" But every time the idea pops up, it focuses more on the "manipulative asshole of an AI" part and not the "how else does the guy order chicken nuggets" part -they're just not thinking it all the way through, I guess.
